Something to POUT about-- Lip Aging

February is all about love.  When I think love, I think LIPS!

Lips are often omitted from our anti-aging conversation, and yet, they are one of the first facial features to show the signs of aging.  Lip aging is influenced by genetic factors, environmental damage, sun exposure, and our habits. With age, we lose collagen, elastin, and oils in the lips.  This leads to a thinner, dryer, more wrinkled pucker.

There are many ways we can fight the aging process in the lips.  Your age, genetics, habits, and personal beauty goals will help determine how aggressive your treatment regimen should be.

Anti-aging Lip Treatment options include:

Topical creams and serums- these can help mask the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and restore hydration.

Botox- in small amounts Botox will help to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by reducing the movement in the muscles that create those lines.

Fillers- hyaluronic acid fillers including Restylane and Juvederm can augment a deflated lip in addition to filling deeper wrinkles above the lip and around the mouth.

Chemical peels- remove the uppermost layer of skin, allowing a new younger layer to take its place. We have many different strengths and types of peels.

Nano or Microlaser peels- “weekend peel” similar to microdermabrasion but more consistent and tunable to specific skin depth, these treatments will also remove the top layer of devitalized skin allowing for new fresh skin to emerge.

BBL treatments - BroadBand Light (BBL) treatments can target fine lines and provide skin tightening and wrinkle reduction.

Halo treatments - laser treatment that provides skin resurfacing at a deeper level with slightly more downtime (approximately 3-7 day).

Microneedling- small needles penetrate the skin creating localized injury, increase skin tone, improve texture and boost collagen.
